Come to the Open House Party on December 1!

If you can’t travel this holiday season, go to Euclid Public Library, and take a festive trip around the world!

In December, Euclid Public Library will mix a dash of lifelong learning with a sprinkle of holiday fun to create The Gift of Stories: International Winter Celebrations, a month-long event that will dazzle your eyes, please your taste buds, and tickle your brain. The holidays are a time to share old and new memories and stories. This season, the library is embracing holiday storytelling with an international twist by showcasing the different ways people around the world celebrate the winter season.

The journey begins when you walk inside. Visitors can check out the “Deck the Walls” exhibit in the art gallery featuring winter and holiday art created by members of the Euclid Art Association.

As you continue past the checkout area, you’ll notice that each area of the library reflects a different country or winter celebration. Throughout the month, visitors of all ages can witness how different countries celebrate, attend internationally themed parties, enjoy holiday storytelling, sample seasonal treats from around the world, and participate in various creative activities.

The fun begins on December 1, all day during regular library hours. Everyone is invited to “party around the world” at EPL’s holiday open house:

10:00 am-noon Enjoy pastries and hot beverages as you visit each area.

All day Take a virtual trip around the world. Children can create Christmas ornaments in the children’s area and discover how many of our Christmas traditions were adopted from Germany. Head across to the teen area to see how people in Latin America celebrate Christmas and create a holiday craft. The fireplace area features countries that welcome the Winter Solstice. Here, you can snap a selfie by a special winter-themed photo backdrop. You can also make a special treat in this area to feed the birds this winter. The adult area is the place to learn about Africa and Kwanzaa. Watch a video showing how women turn strips of magazines into colorful beads. Stop by the nearby bead station to make a bracelet using those African paper beads. Behind the fireplace, Euclid Public Library has transformed its windows into a large “window menorah” for its Hanukkah celebration. In this area, you can challenge your friends to a game of Spin the Dreidel and help create a mosaic menorah poster out of colored stickers. The journey around the world ends in the computer area where you can view the beautiful World Tree. Those who send Christmas cards are invited save money by participating in EPL’s Christmas Card Swap. Bring last year’s leftover cards with envelopes to the library and exchange them for other cards.

In the afternoon and evening sample a variety of international cookies and treats along with hot beverages.

1:00 pm-3:00 pm A caricaturist will be available to create a custom holiday card featuring you.
