Twilight Madness and other Ravings

Eclipse Book JacketOne of the questions I get asked most by the teens who frequent my  desmesne (known as YaYa Land) is "What are you reading now, Miss Dawn?" My latest obsession is the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. Although the first book, Twilight, sucked me in, my favorite of the series was book three, Eclipse, the focus, BTW, of the next meeting of the Twilight Club (Saturday, November 8th at 3 in the Babbitt Room). The jealousy, tension, and one-upmanship that goes on between Edward and Jacob is LOL funny. The action in the book is sublime, as the tension of who is behind the murders in Seattle and the theft of Bella's clothing from her room builds to an awesome vampire battle scene. Members of the Twilight Club will be going to see the movie adaptation of the first book on its opening day, Friday, November 21st.

Another vampire novel I recently enjoyed is Night Road by A.M. Jenkins. Cole is a vampire...oops..I mean Hemevore (the politically correct term). He is a loner who takes great pride in his ability to be careful as he feeds upon the unsuspecting humans. He only feeds enough to keep the thirst at bay. In Jenkins' vampire mythos, new vampires are created only when a human is accidentally killed when being fed upon. Cole is called back to New York City where Johnny, the heme who created Cole, has a problem. There's been an accident. A member of Johnny's colony has created a new vampire, Gordon, and Johnny wants Cole to teach Gordon what he needs to know to keep himself, the humans, and the colony safe. If Gordon fails, then Cole has to eliminate him, for the good of all.

During October and November, the Thursday Teen Anime Club is watching Death Note, a series about Light, a brilliant high school student who comes into possession of a Death Note. The Death Note is a book one writes the names of the people one wants to die in. Light begins to eliminate the world of all the criminals. The Teen Anime club meets every Thursday from 3 to 4:30.
