Benefits payments - Digital!
If you are one of the more than 5.4 million people who receive Social Security or other federal benefits with a paper check each month, things will change March 1, 2013.
Starting on that date of March 1, the Treasury Department is requiring that all Social Security, VA, SSI and other federal beneficiaries receive their benefits by electronic payment.
Seniors and others may choose either direct deposit or the Treasury-recommended Direct Express Debit MasterCard. This new payment method is not optional.
Besides saving tax payers money, switching to electronic payments provides a safer, more convenient and cost-effective way for people to get their checks other than paper checks.
Individuals who need help switching to electronic payment can call the Treasurer's secure Go Direct Call Center at 1-800-333-1795. The switch-over process takes less than 10 minutes.
