FAQ

We have two kinds of computers available for public use at the library.  They are:
 
Catalog PC:  Catalog-only terminals are located throughout the library. You do not need to sign up to use a catalog-only terminal. The majority of these workstations are located down the center walk way of the library.  Using these machines you can browse our online catalog, check you library account and reserve a PC.
 
Internet & Office Application PC:  computers for Internet and/or Office application use are located by the Information Desk and in the Children’s Department.
In order to use the computers in the Children's Department, you must establish a username and password at the Children's Information desk.

To use the computers in the Adult Service area, you will need to establish a username and password with our electronic Sign On Station system. Please ask at the Information desk if you need assistance with the Sign On Station system. Sign ups for computers are same day only.

The library offers FREE wireless Internet access. You are welcome to bring your 802.11b/g (most laptops and wireless devices support this standard) wireless device to the library and surf the Internet for free. Library policies regarding use of the Internet apply to wireless access.

We no longer support floppy drives on our machines.  In fact most new machines you purchase no longer come standard with floppy drives.  Floppy disks are quickly going the way of the dinosaur as they are easily damaged causing the loss of data.  Instead of floppy drives we recommend USB thumb drives.  These are significantly more reliable and can store about 1000 times as much information as a single floppy disk.  We have thumb drives available for purchase at our Circulation desk.

Yes, users of the library's Internet & Office Application workstations will be limited to printing a maximum of 30 pages per day.  Library staff do not have access to override print jobs.  So be careful when you press the print button.

Ohio residents who can write their first name may receive a library card if they have proper identification. Proper identification is defined as follows:

A valid Ohio driver's license or valid State of Ohio identification card must be presented in order to obtain a library card. If the driver’s license or State identification does not have the most current address, a printed check, utility bill, envelope or post card (with a recent postmark) showing the current address must be shown in addition to the driver’s license or State identification.

A patron’s birth date and valid Ohio driver’s license number or valid State of Ohio identification number are required for all library card registrations and will be added to the account. A parent or legal guardian’s driver’s license number or State of Ohio identification number will be added to a child’s account. A social security number is not required.

A PIN (personal identification number) is assigned to each account. Your PIN is your private information; if you choose to give your PIN to a designated person(s) you are choosing to release your account information to that person. Your PIN may be changed by accessing your account online or by presenting a valid Ohio driver’s license or valid State of Ohio identification card at the circulation desk.

All EPL cards expire after 3 years. Cards are renewed once the library determines the patron personal information is current. All outstanding fines and financial blocks must be cleared prior to the renewal of a card. Proper identification is required for renewal and the owner of the card must be present when changing personal information on the account. The patron’s valid Ohio driver’s license number or valid State of Ohio identification number is added to the account.

 At the discretion of the library, a library card may be revoked at any time if materials are abused, damaged or lost and no restitution has been made.

Patrons may obtain information over the telephone concerning their library accounts if they provide us with their card number and PIN.  If the patron does not have the card number and/or the PIN only general information will be provided such as total amount of fines, or how many items are overdue.

Patrons must present a valid library card or proper identification in order to borrow material.  A parent, legal guardian, custodian or a designated person on a child’s account may show identification on behalf of the child.
 
Possession of a card implies permission to use the card to borrow materials and to pick up holds.
 
Possession of a card and the pin number implies permission to use and have access to the account.
 
A patron must present the card they are inquiring about, show proper identification and be designated to have access to the owner’s library account and personal information to obtain information about that card unless the patron has the library card and knows the pin number.

Each Clevnet library has established policies and procedures that fit the needs of that library. When checking out material belonging to another CLEVNET library, other than the Euclid Public Library, a patron agrees to follow the policies and procedures of that particular library.

Lost or stolen library cards must be reported to the library immediately.  We will deactivate the card and issue you a new library card.  You can notify us by calling our circulation desk at: (216) 261-5300 ext 103

Adult patrons who would like to replace their library cards must show proper identification.

 Children must have their parents, legal guardians or custodians show proper identification for them. If the parent, legal guardian or custodian has designated person(s) to have access to the child’s library account and personal information, the designated person must show proper identification on the child’s behalf. The child must be present to sign the new card.

Yes.  Euclid Public Library accepts materials as donations to the collection.  Gifts are evaluated and then either added to the collection or earmarked for the Friends’ book fairs.

As a guide, here are some tips to consider:

• When numerous items are being donated, items must be boxed and not to exceed 40 pounds each.
• No more than 8-10 boxes may be donated at a time without an appointment.
• To schedule an appointment, call the library before 3:00 p.m. at 261-5300, ext. 159 to speak with Adam Sheck, Supervisor of Maintenance.
• Donations will not be accepted one hour before closing.
• On occasion, the library may not be able to accept large quantities of donations simply because we do not have the space to store them.
• Materials in poor condition will not be accepted.
• We do not accept magazines.

Yes.  The book and video drops are open all day, every day, so that you may return borrowed items at any time. Also available is a drive-through book drop located behind the library.

Ohioans who are 60 years old or older, have a valid Ohio driver's license, an Ohio identification card, or are registered to vote will automatically receive a Golden Buckeye card in the mail. Complete information about the Prescription Drug Savings Program will be included in this mailing. After December 1, 2003 the library will assist in getting a replacement Golden Buckeye card if this new one is lost.

Yes.  Voter Registration forms are available at the Circulation Desk and may be filled out at the library or taken home.  Absentee ballots are available.
