Women & Euclid Hospital

The Euclid-Glenville Hospital began in 1907 when a hospital opened on Parkwood Drive with three physicians. It grew every year with additions added until 1933 when a new, brick structure was built. Immediately after WWII, the population of Euclid grew so rapidly that the hospital relocated to its current site on Lake Erie's shore.

The nurturing care that was found in Euclid's hospital was only a fraction of what the women of Euclid were capable of doing. The women's groups of Euclid were many in number and included PTAs, garden clubs, auxiliaries in support of veterans, League of Women Voters, Mothers Clubs and so much more. The Euclid Women's Caucus began in 1978 to network, support, encourage and share friendship with other women in Euclid. In 1979, 160 female leaders were recognized for their participation in Euclid's business, professions and neighborhoods. We can only imagine what that number would be in today's world!

Tom Glendenning recently submitted "my father, Dr. Paul Glendinning, promoted the head nurse to the position of hospital administrator approximately in 1968, give or take a few years. When the hospital merged with another psychiatric unit from the area to form a new hospital in Willoughby, she was administrator there also. Glencliff served the area for over thirty years, 1947 to 1979, and employed many residents of Euclid."
